Cooking at woolloomooloo was done at two classes at the community centre. The class was put on jointly between ARCC and the Juanita Nielsen community centre
With 4 attendees we enjoyed 7 different dishes.
Veges for the class
The vegetables were supplied by food connect. Food connect is a social enterprise which supplies certified organic fruit and veges to Sydney. Tim who is a food connect city cousin came and gave us a talk about their setup works out so well for the farmers and us city folk who want to look after the planet while we eat.
The community garden also chipped in with lots of herbs.
Comments on the dishes
We did not like the salad tofu dish as the sauce was a bit of a failure. Not enough salt and a bit too sour and chilli with the blandness of the tofu. Next time when using the silky tofu, remember to use some more soy sauce and sugar and reduce the lemon juice to 1/2 a lemon. Finish it off with some garlic in the sauce.
But the sweet tofu was Divine. Silky tofu again, but it got a new name ‘custard tofu’. Even after the initial uncertainty (read, ‘doesn’t look good’) it was received with delight. Consensus was that it was a winter dish. Basically, its a sweet ginger sauce warmed up with the tofu. Very warming.
The mushroom rice and pumpkin and sweet potato soup were great. All loved these two dishes as well.
There was some surprise when Ling took the fresh lemon grass leaves from the community garden and made tea with them. Refreshing!
Maj-Britt was a great helper. I like her enthusiasm, neatness and being very helpful indeed. She’ll be ready to run her own workshop soon enough. Thanks Maj-Britt
