You know, having lunch in an art gallery is really quite pleasant. Why didn’t we think of this before? Right next to the Earthcare building 6 artists have studios and gallery inside the Piggery Lane Studio Gallery. After preparing lunch we took our plated delights across the way and enjoyed the hospitality of Dorothy, Malcom and Jen.
This month the menu we prepared was:
Tasty Mushroom
Tofu Steaks with Salad
Fluffy Coconut Pikelets
We were happy to welcome two young men to the workshop. Terrific teenagers who pitched in to the preparation, chopping, frying and plating. We even got a thumbs up on the mushroom dish. And, we managed to fill them up.
Another highlight for Ling is seeing skills being shared and passed on to generations. Just something simple can be a pleasure to learn, today it was ‘chopping nuts’ something shared between two participants.
Getting the Tasty Tofu message out in the world. We have a couple of peoples mind changed from seeing tofu as bland to enjoying a tasty preparation. Actually it is easy when you know how, to make yum and interesting.
Coconut flour for making pikelets was definitely a first for everyone. The pikelets still end like pikelets! And, they have a stunning coconut flavour. Even more stunning when dressed with the berry and rhubarb sauce. Rhubarb picked from the Earthcare garden that very morning.
Hearing from our elders about the place really gives a sense of connection. Beryl recounted how her dad used to work at the agricultural college when she was a girl and she would come down with her dad to see the pigs right where we were having lunch. Hearing that story gave a better sense of significance about these buildings and brings them to life rather more.
