Reflection from Sam at the secret garden

Today, we had the privilege of participating in an eco art workshop at the Secret Garden in Richmond. Following the creative session, we were treated to a delightful feast prepared by the talented Ling. Basking in the warm and sunny weather, Ling had crafted three distinct salads, each with its unique character and meaning.

In a time when Australia faces a significant cultural decision with the upcoming Voice referendum, Ling’s choice to name the salads “Yes,” “Yes yes,” and “Yes yes yes” resonated deeply. It reflected the spirit of Indigenous support and love for all of humanity.

The first salad, a zesty papaya creation, delivered a burst of flavor that was both tasty and tangy. The second dish, a savory blend with a subtle hint of sweetness, featured boiled rice, apple, capsicum, and other delightful ingredients. Lastly, the green salad, reminiscent of a tabouli, refreshed our palates.

Ling’s act of offering this meal to the community was not just heartwarming but also undeniably delicious. The comments circulating about how her food was prepared with love rang true, and I wholeheartedly concur. This nourishing meal brought strangers together and, as an introvert, allowed me to relax and connect with fellow attendees.

As we savored Ling’s creations, smiles spread, fostering a sense of camaraderie that transformed acquaintances into a newfound family. I cherished every bite of those salads, incapable of choosing a favorite because anything Ling makes becomes my instant favorite.

Ling’s selflessness and willingness to share her love and warmth with all sentient beings left me in awe and deep gratitude. After lunch, instead of hastily departing, I felt comfortable enough to engage in conversations and connect with other workshop participants. It was a day filled with soul-fulfilling food and abundant love, thanks to Ling’s incredible generosity. I eagerly anticipate the next time we cross paths.
